Post-tensioning questions

Can't see yours? Ask us directly.

What is post-tensioning?

Post-tensioning is a way of reinforcing concrete with high-strength steel strand. The strand runs through ducts inside the slab and is stressed with hydraulic jacks once the concrete has gained enough strength, then locked off at anchorages at the slab edge.

The tension puts the concrete into compression, which lets slabs span further with less depth and less conventional reinforcement.

Is a post-tensioned slab more economical?

Often, especially on multi-storey buildings with regular spans. Thinner slabs use around 25-30% less concrete and less reinforcement, and a lighter structure can reduce column and foundation sizes.

The best way to know for your project is to get in touch, and we'll compare the options.

When are the tendons stressed?

Once the concrete reaches the transfer strength set by the structural engineer, usually confirmed by concrete test results. This is often within a few days of the pour, so it fits normal floor cycles.

Do you work with our structural engineer?

Yes. We design the post-tensioning and produce shop drawings, and we coordinate with your structural engineer and builder so the PT layout suits the structure, service penetrations and pour sequence.

Do you work outside Sydney?

Yes. We're based in North Strathfield and have delivered projects across New South Wales and interstate. See where we've worked.
